Graduate (GInSTR)
The GInSTR exams will be a UK Level 3 qualification and open to all membership grades.
These exams will take the form of two, open book, multiple choice papers. Paper 1 will be General questions, and Paper 2 will be questions from the candidates chosen specialist field. As these are ‘open book’ exams, there will be a pass mark set at >90%. Sufficient study time will be provided to prepare for the examinations.
Successful completion of these exams will entitle the candidate to Graduate level membership.
These exams are currently in development with the University of Portsmouth and we anticipate a launch in spring 2026.
Member (MInSTR) ***Open for registration until 28 February 2025***
The MInSTR exams are a UK Level 7 qualification, accredited by the University of Portsmouth and open to member grades of Technician and above.
These exams will take the form of four academic reports. Two reports will be written from a choice of six General questions, and a further two reports will be written from a choice of questions relating to the candidates’ chosen specialist field. Candidates will be given a period of four months to conduct their research and present the reports.
Successful completion of these exams will entitle the candidate to Member grade of the Institute, and direct entry, with partial exemption of 30 credits, towards the University of Portsmouth Crisis and Disaster Management MSc.
